Welcome Trip Advisor 2011 Tournament Anglers

Today marks the first day of the 5th annual “Trip Advisor Black and Green Tournament.”

With 14 teams and over 200 participants/cheerleaders, 2011 marks the largest group in the 5 years since this tournament began.

Last night the Captains meeting was held as Desperado’s here in downtown Cabo San Lucas and was a great success.

I’ll update later with a recap of how the teams did out there today, but after talking with a few of the Captains, tons of fish are being caught!

We’d like to thank the members of TripAdvisor.com for their continued support of RedRum Sportfishing, you guys are the best!

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report-Late October Recap

Hola Amigos,

I am going to stick with the recap style blogging until things settle down just a little here in Cabo!

-3 Tournaments down, 2 to go… Team RedRum took 1st Place in the Dorado division of the Los Cabos Billfish. Only 6 qualifying Marlin were weighed in the 8 days of the 3 Tournaments. Of course a week before the tournament there was an 855lb Marlin caught and in between the 3 tournaments a 750lb Marlin was caught. The big fish just didn’t want to bite when it counted. 409lbs ended up winning the Bisbee Black and Blue.

-In the Bisbee Offshore there was a $55,000 carryover on day 2 in the Dorado division. I was fishing with Rich Sebour and his guys and we decided to head after the Dorado on the Pacific side. We caught 11 Dorado but couldn’t get that big bad bull! We ended up losing by 10lbs, but we had a great time fishing none-the-less.

-In the Bisbee Black and Blue, I fished with Kyle Newcomer, and his buddies Fish and Bryan. We had a blast. We caught a few Dorado and few Sails on day 1, had a big Blue knocking on our short corner on day 2, and Sailfish action and a small Blue on day 3. I had a blast fishing with Kyle and the boys and look forward to fishing with them again next year. It’s very rewarding to be able to share my knowledge of the area and the fishing with guys who love to fish.

-Ken Yates, who has been fishing with us for years, caught the Dorado that I needed for the tournaments. Congrats Ken, but you are supposed to save that one for me to catch.

-Water temps have hovered in the mid to high 80′s and bait has been pretty easy to come by. That being said, we are still supplementing our live bait with frozen Ballyhoo each morning. The Dorado and Sailfish have been eating up the Ballyhoo like candy.

-If I had to put a ranking on the fish by amount of each species being caught the past few weeks I would say, 1)Dorado 2) Yellowfin 3) Sailfish 4) Marlin 5) Wahoo and 6) other.

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report- Mid October Recap

Many apologies to our faithful followers for the lapse in reports, October is absolutely crazy here in Cabo San Lucas as you all know. Tournaments and charters and all the fun that comes with both! I can’t get into detail about all the individual charters since our last post but I can highlight the important stuff.

-El Nuevo RedRum has completed it’s “make-over” and is now back in the water. Many long hours were spent in the boatyard sanding, fiberglassing, sanding, painting, sanding, rigging and sanding but it was all worth it. Nuevo looks incredible and is the finest 33′ Bertram in Cabo once again. (Did I mention we spent some time sanding that boat?)

-The Dorado bite is unreal right now. For the past 10 days or so, since our last report, we have been absolutely hammering the Dorado. Lots of fish in the 20-30lb range and a few in the 40-50lb range. Most have been caught from the Lighthouse to Los Arcos 2-3 miles from shore.

-Some serious “Cow” size Tuna have made their way to the scales in the recent tournaments which is exciting news for our Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot Anglers that will be fishing the 3rd and 4th of November.

-Speaking of tournaments, we just finished both the Los Cabos Billfish and Bisbee Offshore tournaments. After 5 days in a row fishing for the big boys, the only two qualifying Marlin (over 300lbs) were caught, both on day 1 of the Los Cabos. As luck would have it, Americo was fishing on our 31′ Bertram RedRum Sunday and caught and released a Black Marlin they estimated at 350-375lbs.

-Speaking of the Los Cabos Billfish tournament, once again Team RedRum brings home an over-sized check. This time we won the Dorado division and all three days of jackpot money, totaling over $15,000.

-We’ve already done over 100 charters in the month of October, thanks to all our awesome customers!

-I’m sure I’ve missed something but my brain is mush. If you fished with us and are reading this and had something you wanted to share, please add it to the comments section. We would love to hear from you.

-Finally, Jerry Sanchez, who took over for Nick in the RedRum Office as the Office Manager, is no longer with us. We thank Jerry for the time he spent with us but in the end, as you all know we are a family here and operate as one. We treat our clients like family and try to have an organized and upbeat office. We will once again begin the search for another office manager.

We apologize in advance for the lack of reports, the timeliness of our email responses, etc etc. We have Brooke and Bruin Donovan working the Portofino Pedregal Stay and Play Packages and John and Ryan Donovan working the office check-ins, reservations, and tournament fishing! There are enough of us to make it all happen, we may just have bags under our eyes for the next month or so.

Keep your fingers crossed, say a prayer, talk to the fish gods do whatever it is that you do, but keep the RedRum teams in your thoughts the next few days as we once again get out there and look for the big one that will bring the big check!
