Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov. 29th

Today was a great day to be out on the beautiful waters of Cabo San Lucas!

First up, we had first timer Kaleb Sims go out with Dad, Erik Sims and Chip Culp. They ventured out on ReelRum with Ramon and Juan. These guys had an awesome time out on the water with Kaleb, winning one of two bets for the most catches of the day, reeled in a Rooster Fish AND a Pompano to make for a great showing his first time out. Awesome job Kaleb, we can’t wait to see how many you catch next year! Chip and Erik also brought in another Roosterfish and a Jack Crevalle. Interesting array of catches for these fisherman.

Brothers Peter and David Rahn who fished with us on Sunday, came back and brought a couple of friends along, Randy and Joe who helped them with their desired catch of the day….. Yellowfin Tuna. They went out past the lighthouse on the Pacific side with Jesus and Jesus and reeled in a total of 8 Tuna. Joe broke the pole on the 100 pounder he wrestled in before losing it right at the boat…….Sorry Joe, that is how it goes sometimes!

The Schmardo party was back at it again after a disappointing first day on the water Sunday, they were here enjoying a play and stay package and trying to get something on the line to eat. This rambunctious group of gentlemen consisting of Joe Schmardo, Pete and Sammy Catalena and the Ruffino boys, Joe, Larry and Roland had a good day out reeling in 2 striped Marlin, Larry caught the heaviest one at 120lbs, and Sammy got the lighter but LONGER fish measuring about 100 inches. As luck would have it, they were able to hook a 25 lb Dorado that they were happy to have fileted and took away for some good eatin’! Congrats guys, we’ll see ya next year!

Last but by NO means LEAST we had Marianne and Richard Walz along with Steve Halsworth and William Billings off on RedRum with Captain Omar and mate Americo these guys really reeled ‘em in. When they came back into the marina I thought the guys were dryin’ their flags when they pulled back in the marina with 19 flags flyin’! These guys caught 10 Yellowfin Tuna, 8 Dorado and 1 Wahoo. They had so much fish they had to bring it back in a wheelbarrow! They enjoyed their catch with Isreal at Misiones de Kino, and shared their catch with lot’s of lucky friends!

Until Next Time,

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov. 28th

Today was a great day for bill fish!

Don Beck went out with brother Scott Beck and buddy Maurice Sleigh around the Golden Gate area with Captain Ramon and Mate Jaun. They fished on ReelRum where they reeled in a 150lb Striped Marlin. They released the Marlin and did not have much more luck the rest of the day. We look forward to see what they catch when they are back again on Wednesday.

Jeff and Pati Kaser fished out by the Golden Gate as well and had a little more luck than the Beck bunch. With the help of Captain Jesus and Mate Jesus out6 on RumRunnin, they managed to each reel in a Striped Marlin, one at 140 lbs and the second weighing in at 150. They also caught a sailfish, which has been a rarity around here, it weighed in at 90 lbs. They released all billfish and were happy to return with a Dorado that they had fileted up for dinner.

Lastly there was Greg Schneider with his crew, Jennifer Vinci, John McAlister and Joyce Carter who went out on Tantrum with Captain Manuel and Mate Edgar. They had fun, but said it was a pretty long day out on the water with Greg reeling in the lone catch of the day, but it was a good one! He caught a striped Marlin, which he released, tipping the scales at around 140lbs.

Until Next Time!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report Nov. 27

Hola amigos! I sure am happy to be back in sunny Cabo San Lucas. I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving, I sure did! I was able to go home for the first time in about 3 years to spend the holidays with my family. It really made me think about all the things I am thankful for.

It looks like the fish have definitely been biting since I have been gone, today was no different. We had the Roux brothers, Brian and Ken along with Dennis Parrish out on Tantrum with Captain Manuel and mate Edgar. They came in this morning saying they wanted some tuna, and tuna is what they got! They headed about 25 miles straight out by the lighthouse and landed 7 Yellowfin Tuna. Needless to say, today was a HUGE success, lets see what they come up with when they are back again this Tuesday.

We had Ronn Maxwell along with three lovely ladies, Tina Maxwell, Summer Skidmore and Lori Maxcey who went out on RedRum with Omar and Americo. They were all rarin’ to go when they came in this morning, they did not care what they caught, they were ready to have fun and fun they did! They fished up by the Golden Gate and landed 4 Dorado weighing in around 25- 30 lbs and one Striped Marlin of about 160 lbs. All in all, they had a great day out on the Pacific.

Peter and David Rahn, another set of brothers, went out today on RumRunnin with Captain Jesus and Mate Jesus (YES, they are both Jesus). They also fished out by the Golden Gate on the Pacific Coast. These seasoned fisherman were able to reel in 5 Dorado, the largest one weighing in at 30 lbs was caught by Peter. David is hoping to get the bigger catch next time they go out, which will be Tuesday AND Thursday, so I guess they will have plenty of chances to one-up each other!

Thanks for reading! Until next time,

Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov 25th

Just two boats out today, everyone must have Turkey Hangovers…

Kris and Natasha Karstens were out again today, this time with Javier on RumRunnin’. They were joined again by Marion and Sue Powell and Jason and Julie Sherber. Jason was recommended to us by my good friend Dave Smith (Smitty I sent you a hat with Jason) in Houston. Jason called prior to his trip and said he wanted to fish on Friday but had some friends he was meeting up with who were fishing once before he got here. I told him to hold off on booking a boat as his buddy may really like the crew or the boat he went out on. Never heard back from Jason so I figured his friend had booked another day of fishing with another company. Well his friend he was meeting up with happened to be Kris Karstens who fished with us on Monday. Small world. Kris, Jason, Marion and the gals had an awesome day on the water, they caught and released 2 Striped Marlin, and also caught 5 Dorado and 1 Wahoo.

Next up was Kim Sprott, Cheryl Farmer, Sheila Schmidt, and Kristy Kevitt who fished with Omar on RedRum. This was a wild group of gals and I could tell that Omar and Americo would have their hands full. After a sub-par fishing experience earlier in the week with another company, Kim told me in the morning they wanted to “hang poles over the side of the boat and reel in small fish.” After a little convincing, I got her to agree to let Omar and Americo do their thing for a bit and if it didn’t work, they could hang poles over the side of the boat. They came back with 6 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin. Kim admitted that our boys knew what they were doing, and further admitted that she loved Omar.

Good Stuff.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Happy Turkey Day, or Pavo as we say in Spanish

Happy Thanksgiving to the extended RedRum Family of clients.

A short list of what we have to be thankful for here at RedRum:
-First of course is the healthy birth of the newest member of Team Redrum, D. Bruin Donovan.
-All of our awesome clients, we obviously couldn’t do it without you all. Thank you for your word of mouth recommendations, your rave reviews on Trip Advisor and various fishing forums, and for coming back and supporting us year after year.
-A new office manager, we are very excited to have Tiffany on board and know she will do a great job.
-Our incredible crews. These guys fish 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week and bring passion to work with them everyday. I am amazed that these guys can not only handle 8 hours a day on the water, week in and week out, but also continue to strive to do better by their clients. You won’t see our guys going through the motions or taking you for a “boat ride,” they understand that offshore fishing is an expensive addiction you have and they work hard.
-A beautiful, plentiful and safe fishery.
-Finally, we are thankful for the health of everyone here at Team Redrum.

Today we had Marlin hunters out there. Everyone wanted to go after the Billfish and the Billfish did not cooperate.

The Hawthorne’s, the Whiteside’s and Odom’s all were after the Billfish and they came back with a few Dorado’s to show for it.

Li Liu and her crew (that rhymed) spent the day fishing with Danny and Chito on Marlin Queen and they caught and released 1 Striped Marlin and also caught some Tuna. Li was extremely happy to catch Tuna as they were looking forward to some Sashimi!

Once again, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov 23rd – General recap

Today we had 7 boats out on the water. I was running around like crazy this afternoon getting things ready for Thanksgiving Cabo style at our place and misplaced the catch count for the day.

Most of the guys are heading up the Pacific lately. The area between Los Arcos and the Golden Gate is loaded with fish. Water temps are still in the high 70′s and the Dorado are all over the place. Almost every boat recently has been catching their limit on Dorado, which was recently lowered to 2 fish per angler. You are allowed to catch as many as you like, but can only harvest 2. This is a good thing. Lots of small Wahoo are also in the area right now. Most Wahoo are in the 20-30lb range. Striped and Blue Marlin are also all over the Pacific, been hooking up to about 20% the fish we are throwing bait to.

If you fished today and would like to report on what your catch was, please do so in the comments section. I apologize for not getting your info up here, just been a little crazy since we are short staffed at the moment. Certainly hoping our office manager Tiffany is enjoying her Thanksgiving at home, but we are ready for her to return.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov 22nd

Olga Longan and her husband were down from Arizona and decided on a half day fishing trip with Edgar and Manuel on TantRum. They had a great day on the water catching 4 Dorado. They had a Marlin hooked and fought it for a while but eventually lost the fight. Can’t win them all.

Norman Williams last fished with us here at Redrum about 10 years ago and came back to see us again with Grant and Karen Ellis in tow. After receiving offers all around the Marina to fish for less money, Norman stuck with his guns and booked El Nuevo RedRum. You can always find a cheaper option whether it be a car, a sportfishing charter or a restaurant, but you normally get what you pay for. With RedRum you are paying for a clean, well equipped boat, a great crew, and an owner who is willing to put enough diesel fuel on the boat to get you to where the fish are. I have to imagine Norman was happy with his decision to not go with the cheaper offer when they came back with 8 Dorado and 2 Striped Marlin.

David and Andrew Scott fished aboard Redrum today and brought back 3 Dorado.

We also had the Ihnotic family who was down here on a cruise ship, for some reason I misplaced their information so I am not exactly sure what they caught.

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report – Nov 21st – Huge Blue Marlin!

Kris and Natasha Karstens who have been fishing with us for a few years now were joined by Sue and Marion Powell and spent the day fishing with Americo and Thomas on RedRum. They had more flags than any other boat in the harbor this afternoon! 7 Dorado, 2 Striped Marlin and a Wahoo!

Karen Herr and her 16 year old son Steven are down visiting from Encintas, California. They really wanted to get Steven hooked up with his first Marlin and Captain Javier and his mate Jesus were up to the task. Before they could get on the Marlin, they caught 2 Dorado and a Wahoo, so things were off to a good start. Jesus then saw about 20 Dorado jumping out of the water off the port side of the boat about 200 yards away. Captain Javier quickly sped over and they saw a huge bloody hole in the water. Jesus pitched a live Caballito into the hole in the water and immediately got bit. When he set the hook they saw what was causing the commotion. Javier got the best look at the fish from the tower and he estimated the Blue Marlin to be in the 400-500lb range. Steven did his best for over 2 hours and Javier and Jesus were impressed at how strong he was and what a good job he did on the rod and reel. That being said, the 40lb test was a little too light for the beast at the other end and the line ended up snapping. A great day nonetheless, and all the more reason for Steven to come back and get back on the rod and reel.

Steve Yeaps, Dusty Mathis and Denisse Mathis joined the boys on El Nuevo RedRum today and had a nice day catching 4 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin.

Napolean Espinoza and his crew joined the guys on Marlin Queen today and they did the same, 4 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin.

Karen Hays and her crew kept the streak going on TantRum, also catching 4 Dorado and releasing a Striped Marlin.

Finally, Robert Hawthorne and his crew, who were fishing day 2 of 3 were back out on ReelRum today again in search of the Billfish. Today was a good day for them as they did get that Bill, a nice 105″ Striped Marlin that they caught and released. They also caught 2 Dorado.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov 20th

The Beeson crew was back at it for a second day on the water with Javier and Jesus on Rum Runnin’ and they had another fantastic day with 10 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin.

David Vanwart and his crew were also back out for a second day, this time with Omar and Americo on RedRum. They have been fishing with Omar for years now and always like to target the Billfish. They hooked a Blue Marlin, a Sailfish, and 3 Stiped Marlin, but were only able to bring 1 Stripe Marlin to the boat. They also caught a Dorado for dinner.

Darryl and Beverly Garrison who are repeat customers of ours spent the day with Alex and Jesus on El Nuevo RedRum and they had a great day. They landed a total of 6 Dorado and 2 Striped Marlin. Mr. and Mrs. Garrison were also extremely generous when it came time to tip the boys and they were very appreciate with Christmas right around the corner. Thanks for coming back to see us again guys, hope to see you again soon.

ReelRum fished a half-day today with Matthew Hoover, Alex Marchuk, Reggie Altima and Michael Scott. With only the half-day to work with, sometimes it is tough to get to the fish but Ramon and Juan made it happen to the tune of 4 Dorado and 2 Wahoo. The guys were headed to Hacienda Cocina and Cantina for to have a nice Wahoo and Dorado dinnner.

Not a bad little Sunday.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Nov 19th

Hola amigos,

We have a big event coming up tomorrow at Wild Canyon Adventure Park (which is amazing by the way,) with all the concierges in Cabo attending. We will be showing off our awesome fleet and having some fun at the park at the same time. That being said, we have been busy getting all our marketing materials ready and whatnot, and the fish report is a bit backed up. For that I apologize.

Mike Berger and Rip Rutherford were back at it today for their second day of fishing, this time with Ramon and Juan on ReelRum. They caught a total of 9 Dorado, keeping the 4 biggest and also released 1 Stripe Marlin.

Glen and Cheri Harton who were also part of the big group down for Jason Rutherford’s 40th Birthday got the short end of the stick for the the second day in a row. While all their buddies were limiting out, they once again got just 1 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin. As we all know, that’s fishing.

Jason Rutherford, the birthday boy, fished with his wife Kristen again today on RedRum with Omar and Americo and had another great day with 9 Dorado caught. I bought a small bottle of Tequila for Jason’s birthday and Omar did it up right, having Jason do a ceremonial shot after he landed his first fish!

Johnny Rutherford, the elder statesman of the Rutherford clan, fished with his daughter and son-in-law today. His wife Sandra, the queen of the Rutherford clan stayed behind for a Spa day. They had a great day fishing aboard Rum Runnin’ with a total of 8 Dorado and 1 Striped Marlin.

Robert Hawthorne, his wife Donna, and their friend Victor Gustafson spent their first of 3 days on the water today with the boys on TantRum. They were searching for the Billfish and had 5 different fish that they threw bait to, but ended they day without a Billfish. The silver lining was the 6 Dorado that they did catch.

Andrew Fraser and his boys were down from Canada and they spent the day with Danny and Chito on Marlin Queen. They had a phenominal day catching a total of 4 Dorado and 3 Stripe Marlin.
