Goodbye 2011!!! HELLO NEW YEAR!

On this New Years Eve, I would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. As for me, I am going to start fresh, with a new attitude and outlook for this coming year. I am not going to make any resolutions, those never work out well for me, I am just going to take each day as it comes and try to take everything in stride.

I am reporting the last two days of fishing, since I did not get my report out yesterday. Friday we had a group of young lads from L.A. who went out on El Nuevo with Captain Jesus. Daniel Kim, James Choi, Brian Lee and Anderson Leau had a slow day starting out, but by the afternoon, the fish really started biting. They ended up with 6 Yellowfin Tuna in a couple of hours.

Mark, Reese and Dylan Layton went out on ReelRum with captain Ramon and Mate Jaun. They went about 25 miles out past the lighthouse. They had a productive day ending up with 5 Yellowfin Tuna and 1 Dorado.

Susan and Darren Gerds, Scott and Tanner Olson and John Buettgen were out on the Marlin Queen for the second time, hoping to score some Marlin. With Captain Danny at the helm, they were able to spot the Marlin and get to them. Scott and Sue each caught a Striped Marlin, which they were really excited about, and John had one on for a while, but lost it. Overall, a good day for these guys.

Tiffany and Barry Anderson from Canada were all smiles when coming into the office for their first day of fishing with us on Friday. They went out on Tantrum with Manuel and Edgar, where they fished about 25 miles out on the pacific side. Tiffany came back in the office and said, with a huge grin, “We did not go fishing today, we went catching!” And catching they did, they picked up 6 Yellowfin Tuna and a skipjack, which they tossed back. Tiffany said they were fighting a large Yellowfin for a while until it broke the line. Maybe next time Tiff!

Kari and Mike Ruma along with Mike, Kayli and Emma White were off on RumRunnin for a half of a day with Javier and Jesus. It was Emma and Kayli’s first time ever fishing, and they turned up with some beginners luck! They each reeled in a Dorado and had lots of fun in the process. The boat reeled in an additional 3 Dorado, making their total 5 for the day.

Jack Lawson, who fished with us earlier in the week and reeled in 6 Yellowfin Tuna, decided to go back out and give it another go on New Years Eve. He brought friends, Linda Sampson, Glen Geary, Dee Beaulieu and Juan Gatien along this time hoping to equal his previous visit. The day proved to be a bit slower for them today, as they only reeled in a lone Dorado. One is better than none! Great job guys!

Tom and Laura Benton took off on RumRunnin for the day with Javier and Jesus, fishing out at the Golden Gate. They had a great day reeling in a Striped Marlin a piece weighing in around 150 lbs!

We had a shared half day charter today on Tantrum with David Kiger and son Zane (SO CUTE!) along with Mom and Daughter team, Sarah and Jackie Beaulieu. These guys had a pretty good day of inshore fishing with little Zane catching his first fish ever, a Wahoo which he had a little help from his Dad to pull in. Sarah was able to reel in a Dorado that weighed about 20lbs and Jackie pulled in a SkipJack that they let go. It was great meeting these folks and being able to successfully make their share happen!

Happy New Year to ALL!!!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Dec. 28

Well, the year is winding down, but thankfully, not the fishing!

Today we had Anthony Stoer and Wayne Driver out on Tantrum with Captain Jesus and Mate Edgar. These guys had been fishing earlier this week and were looking to hook some Marlin today. As luck would have it, they both caught and released a Striped Marlin, Wayne’s weighing in at around 120 lbs and Tony catching a slightly bigger fish at about 140 lbs. These guys had a good time out there and were really fun guys, I hope to them when they are back at it again next year!

The McDonalds, including Cheryl, Chris, Dean, Scott and Blair set out for the day on El Nuevo RedRum with Captain Jesus and Mate Jesus. These guys fished out on the Pacific side and were able to reel in 9 Yellowfin Tuna.

Ken Yates decided to fly solo this trip, and went out with Captain Ramon and Mate Juan on ReelRum. He had a good day and was able to bring in 4 Yellowfin Tuna, some of which he took to have cooked up and the rest he left here to have vacuum sealed and frozen for his trip home.

Justin Winn came into the office a day before his charter before deciding to book it. He had gone with other companies in the past, but after hearing about us on one of his Texas A & M Aggie forums, he decided to come check us out. He brought along family, Jessica and Jim and a new friend, Robert Christianson. They caught a total of 5 Yellowfin Tuna, Jessica reeling in 2 of them, the biggest ones! We hope these guys decide to come back with us again next year, they sure were a fun bunch!

The Hughes gang, Shelley, Katherine, Nicholas and Art headed out for a half day on RedRum with Captain Omar and Mate Thomas. They had a nice day ending up with three Yellowfin Tuna.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Dec. 27

Today was a pretty good day of fishing. We had Matthew Rudolph, Micheal and Ryan Graf and Bruce Pillar out on El Nuevo with Captain Jesus and Mate Jesus. These guys went out on the Pacific side looking for some tuna. They did an awesome job finding it and cought their limit coming home with 12 Yellowfin Tuna in all. The youngest, Ryan, actually caught 5 of the twelve and was crowned “Catcherman” of the day!

I had a real Motley Crew come into the office before Christmas, I honestly thought I was being punked. The Casareto clan came into the office all donning Santa hats and lots of joy. They said, they wanted to go fishing and they had to catch some Marlin. So we booked them (only four of them, but there were MANY more that came in the office!!) on RumRunnin with Javier and Jesus and they ended up having a fantastic day. Each one, Andrew, Tony, Dom and Jake were able to reel in a Striped Marlin a piece. I would say they walked away pretty satisfied. They will be back out on Thursday and we hope their luck does not change!

Mike Tucci, a seasoned fisherman with RedRum, went out on RedRum with Captain Omar and Mate Juan. He had a productive day, landing a total of seven Yellowfin Tuna, keeping five and releasing two. I am sure he will be back at it again here real soon!

We had Silvia Veriz, Nora and Jessica Maldonado, Fernanda and Alberto Mayoral and Brenda Loyo Romero out on Cabo Chica looking to have lots of fun. These guys were in from Mexico City looking for some tranquility in the beautiful waters Los Cabos has to offer. They caught a total of 4 Yellowfin Tuna, winning the biggest catch of the day, an 80 pounder! That is the biggest Tuna we have seen lately. They said they would send in a picture, I hope they do!

Last but but not least, we had Susan and Darren Gerds, Scott and Tanner Olson, John Buettgen and Clifford Mishler out on the Marlin Queen hoping to get into some Marlin. They said it was an extremely slow day and did not reel in one Marlin. They almost had one, got it all the way to the boat and lost it. Well, they are going back out on Friday and we hope they luck will turn around!

Until Next Time,

Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Dec. 26th

Well, it looks like everyone had a great Christmas, this morning the office was full of smiles and everybody seemed pleased with what Santa brought!

The Ryans were in the office bright and early after having fished previously in the week. Naomi was back today after having to take a break on Saturday, and I know Robert and Daniel were happy, because I think she brought them a little luck. They were looking to hook some Marlin, and they were able to do just that. They reeled in two Striped Marlin, one around 120lbs and the other 150. They gave me a koozie on their way out, “Reeling for Robbie” is what it read. They lost their son a year ago, and said since then, they are always “Reeling for Robbie”. They have started a charitable fishing tournament in Robbie’s name. I am sure he was smiling down watching them pull in their Marlin this week!

The Hons crew, Nancy, Fitch, Collyn and Duane were out for a second time on ReelRum. They said they had a pretty good day, almost caught a Marlin, but they lost it. They also caught 3 Yellowfin Tuna, which they added to the fish that they caught earlier in the week. They came back in the office after a slow ride back and said they enjoyed the day. We can’t wait to have them back next year!

Anthony Stoer and Wayne Driver headed out on Tantrum with Captain Jesus and mate Edgar. They went about 28 miles straight out past the lighthouse. They had a good day, boating 2 Yellowfin Tuna. They said there were Whales breaching and porpoise all around. These guys have fished with us plenty of times before, and will go out again on Wednesday.

The Spanitz gang, Ashley, Peter and Megan headed off on RedRum for a full day of fishing with Captain Omar and Mate Mauricio. They fished out on the Pacific side looking for some Yellowfin Tuna and were fortunate enough to boat six of them. They said they had a great time out there.

We did have some casualties today as well. Both our half day charters, Derek and Shannon Pasiewicz, who went out on Killer, a panga boat, had poor luck pulling in and releasing 3 Bonito and said that they saw so many pods of jellyfish, literally billions, that their bait was jumping out of the water due to the sting. Ouch, is what I have to say to that! We also had the Kirkpatricks, consisting of Rob, Brady, Ceara and
Reilly out on El Nuevo and they had no luck at all with the fish, but still came back in to tell me that it was still a fun day. Better luck next time guys!!

Feliz Navidad!!

I hope everyone is already where they want to spend Christmas or at least on their way there! This will be my first Cabo Christmas and I must say, with all the southerners down here this week, it feels a lot like home! The Yellowfin have really been biting this past week and our customers are not disappointed.

Friday, we had Duane Hons along with Collin, Fitch and Nancy Hons out on ReelRum with Captain Jesus and Mate Edgar. These guys had a great day catching fish, reeling in a total of 16 Yellowfin Tuna. They boated 13, after they lost a couple and released one. The largest of the bunch came in at around 35lbs. Duane came in the office saying, “I have a complaint!” Oh, no I thought….. he says, “I’m really tired from reeling in so many fish”. Now THAT is a complaint I can deal with!

Next up, we had the West family, Andy and Rebecca along with Lucas, Hudson and Gracie. These guys went out on RedRum with Omar and Americo ready to have a great day on the water. Unfortunately, not too far out, the younger kids got a little sea sick and Omar turned the boat around to head back. The day was not a complete loss, as they caught a couple of Skip Jack, which were released.

The Ryans, Naomi, Robert and Daniel all the way from Savannah, GA, went out on RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Jesus in hopes of reeling in some Marlin. They were in luck! Daniel reeled in two himself, catching the largest Striped Marlin measuring 93 inches and weighing 140lbs. Dad Robert also got to reel one in, which he released. They were back out here with us for Chrismas Eve today, and wanted to get back on the Marlin. Unfortunately, today was not as lucky for them, as they returned home, sans flags. They still have Monday to go though, and after resting up tomorrow, they will be ready to fight the Marlin fight again!

Today we had Don and Laura Grace with daughter Courtney Kridel and husband Chris come in the office rarin’ to go fishing. They were in high spirits, ready to go out and have a great day, and I was rooting for them, since they are from GA that they would really knock it out of the park today. Unfortunately, not very far out, they began to experience sea-sickness that would not subside. We hope they can try us out again sometime, maybe with a stronger sea sickness remedy!

Gary Whitaker called in last night looking to go fishing today, he did not care what he had to do, his family was going on a boat! We got him settled on Tantrum with the rest of his family, Kim, Julia and Kali. They were looking to reel in some Marlin and have some fun. They got the best of both worlds, though they only saw a few Marlin, they caught and released one that was around 130lbs. Great job guys!

Erik and Erica Liodice along with best buds Jessica Haylett and Ryan Tobin set off on El Nuevo with Captain Jesus and Mate Juan for an adventure they won’t soon forget. They came in the office with smiles on their faces looking to catch all the fish possible for the day. They were not disappointed. They went out for the Yellowfin Tuna and reeled in a total of 18. Here is how the catching broke down: Ryan – 7, Erik – 5, Jessica – 4, Erica – 2. I guess the trophy goes to Ryan (who was not to proud to boast about it upon his return)! These guys were lots of fun and I am glad I got a chance to meet them all!

I would like to wish all of our friends, family and wonderful customers (who are our family) a very Merry Christmas! May Santa bring you all you wished for :)

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report Dec. 19th – 22nd

It has been a good pre-Christmas week so far for the Fishermen and women here at Redrum. There has been plenty of fish to go around.

Monday, we had Robert Fuller and wife out on RedRum with Captain Omar and Mate Americo. They decided to go try out the bite on the Finger Banks. They spent almost 12 hours out there on the water and came back with a disappointing 2 Dorado. They said they had a great time though and were in high spirits when they returned to the office, they said it was a great day chasing the fish!

Next up, the Monticello’s, Thomas, Travis, Ellen, Camy and Natalie headed out on RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Jesus. They made it about 18 miles out and caught one Yellowfin Tuna and a Mako Shark, which was released, before having to head back due to a little sea-sickness. We are glad they made it back with a little something for dinner.

Matt Troyer and buddies Jeff Bergdorf and Lilo Aiu went out for their first day of fishing on the Marlin Queen with Danny and Chito. They had a great day on the water, catching the Yellowfin Tuna limit of 15, Jeff caught the lone Dorado of the day. They were out again on Wednesday and brought along Matthew Bergdorf for his first deep sea fishing experience, for his Birthday! So happy Birthday to Matthew. They had an excellent day, spending about 2 and a half hours fighting a monstrous Swordfish that got about 7 foot from the boat before they lost it. Everybody got their hands on the rod for a little while, Matthew said his hands were torn up from the fight, but he really enjoyed his first experience, it was exciting. So, this would have been a rare catch, had they boated it, but the guys really enjoyed the fight.

The Koehn family, Brad, Lori, Rebecca, Blake and Blair came in the office, and when I asked what they wanted to catch, Lori told me, well, that she really wanted to see some whales. I told her to tell the captain, and I am sure he would see if he could locate some for them. They got their wish. They saw some Whales and a lot of Dolphin. The fishing was not too bad either, Rebecca ended up with her first catch ever, a 90lb Striped Marlin which she released and then they caught 2 Dorado as well.

John Jenkins and son Jacob from my hometown Charlotte, NC were in for a few days of fishllowfin Tuna and a Sting, their “Father/Son trip” and had some awesome days on the water. The first day out they caught 5 Yellowfin Tuna and a Striped Marlin that weighed in around 170lbs and measured 105 inches. They reeled it in together. Day 2 was their slow day, they brought back 2 Dorado. Day three, eldest son, Jonathan joined the group and they had an awesome day, reeling in 12 Yellowfin Tuna and another Striped Marlin, just as big as day one. Unfortunately the Marlin lost the fight, so they have him in our freezers too. We hope they find a cooler big enough to tote all their fish home!

Today, Thursday, we also had Thomas and Anne Burns along with friend Barbie Pinero out on El Nuevo with Captain Jesus “Tio Pato” and Mate Jesus. They went about 30 miles out having lots of luck with the Yellowfin Tuna, they came back with a total of 11. Barbie came back mad as a hornet because she was unable to enjoy the day due to sea-sickness. Well, at leased she will be consoled with a little fresh tuna!

Last but not least, we had the Burtz family, hailing from Peachtree City, GA, ALSO my neck of the woods with John, Sherry, Leslie, Lauren and Aaron out on RumRunnin. These guys had an eventful day, with Aaron, only 15, reeling in his first Striped Marlin weighing in at around 120 lbs. Lauren and John each pulled in a Dorado. A Yellowfin Tuna that they released. They also caught 6 Skipjack and released all but one which they fed to Pancho the seal. They said he WORKED for it! Lot’s of family fun today and they will finish off the night with their Dorado being cooked up at Misiones de Kino. Nice meetin’ y’all!

Thanks for reading!

TGIF AMIGOS!!!!

Friday is finally here and the sun is finally making it’s way out of the clouds. We are looking forward to a beautiful weekend!

Today, we had Jason Brown and Nate Seaman hailing from Denver, Colorado out on Tantrum with Captain Manuel and Mate Edgar. These guys came back with huge smiles on their faces after an awesome day of “catching”. They landed 10 Yellowfin Tuna, the largest weighing around 35 lbs and 1 Dorado. They also caught 2 Striped Marlin which hit at the exact same time. This was a pretty special moment, these guys were fighting the fish together, and gloriously landed them both. Nate caught the largest one, weighing around 150 and Jason pulled in one a little smaller, around 130lbs. Both of which they released. Great job guys!

Right behind Nate and Jason came Bjorn and Jenz Wallman with smiles just as wide. These brothers, from Sweden, had lots of fun with Javier and Juan out on the Sea of Cortez. Bjorn, who I named the Marlin “hog” reeled in all three Striped Marlin for the pair, the largest weighing in at around 150 lbs and they also caught 3 more Dorado, two of which they left to their crew and the other they took directly to have cooked up in a close-by restaurant. Thanks for the fish donation, I know our guys appreciate it and LOVE fish!!

Lastly, we had Joe Coote out on RedRum who did not have as good of a day. With all the fish around, his boat missed the mark. So Joe decided he would give it another go and return with us to fish on Saturday. Saturday he ended up having a great time on Tantrum with Manuel and Edgar. He only went out for a half day, but he ended up with the Yellowfin Tuna limit of 5. We are happy we were able to get him back out there and see him have some success on the water!

Until Next Time,

Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Dec. 14 & 15

It has been pretty cloudy around here lately, but we are hoping to be back to the nice sunny Cabo San Lucas skies that we are used to….. PRONTO!

Wednesday we had fishing buddies Ricardo Valencia and Rafael Granados out on Tantrum for the day. They fished straight out past the Lighthouse with Captain Jesus and Mate Edgar. They said they had a lot of fun, bringing back 6 Yellowfin Tuna, the biggest of which was 35lbs. We vacuum packed and froze their fish for them and when they came back in to pick the fish up, they let me know that next time they would have to bring some more crew with them next time to lend a hand reeling in all the fish! Well, we hope to see them back real soon.

Lori and Steve Stymeist headed out on RedRum with Omar and Americo where they fished about 25 miles past the Lighthouse. They ended up having an awesome day catching 11 Yellowfin Tuna. Lori caught the biggest Tuna, and I saw the filet, it was HUGE, weighing in at around 40lbs. They also caught a hefty Striped Marlin around 160lbs, which they released to fight another day.

Todd and Yolanda Blechinger fished for two days with RedRum, the 13th and the 15th. They were on Tantrum their first day out and had a good day catching a 100lb, 95 inch Striped Marlin and 2 Dorado 25/15 lbs. Thursday they were back out on RedRum with Omar and Americo and reeled in 18 Yellowfin tuna. Now that is a lot of tuna!

Connie and Marshall Dobrin went out on Tantrum with Manuel and Edgar and had an awesome day boating a total of 10 Yellowfin Tuna. Great job!!

We did have a couple of casualties over these two days. Both charters were off a cruise ship, maybe the sea gods just would not allow so much action on the water! The first group was Ed and Lisa Lestina and Micheal Ortiz, we hope if they make it back, they can go for a longer day and maybe end up taking home some fish! The other group was Andrew Caudal and the Dimsha clan, Alan, Mark and Max. These guys came back by the office in good spirits, saying that they had fun anyway, Andrew said, “5 hours on a boat with Jesus is better than 5 hours at my desk ANY day”. We ABSOLUTELY agree. Better luck next time guys!

Is the Finger Bank starting to get hot?

Hola hola,

Just got word from a very reliable source that the Finger Bank is starting to heat up. This came from one of my more reliable sources and one of the top Captains in the game. I was told to keep this info “under my hat,” but if I didn’t share this with you readers, how would you know? Book your boat and then book your flights and get down here and hit the Finger Bank while it is hot. My last trip up there we had double digit Dorado, Tuna and Marlin, all in the same day.

Remember, you will want a twin engine boat, so you are looking at RedRum, El Nuevo RedRum, Marlin Queen, or something in the 40-50′ range. Your fishing day is going to be more like 10 hours rather than 8 hours, and we have to charge a fuel premium of $300 to do a trip to the Finger Banks. That being said, if you have fished Cabo many times and done the Gordo, San Jaime and Golden Gate Banks already, you have to fish the Finger!

I am not posting this info on any fishing forums or publishing it in any of the publications I write for. This info is for the greater RedRum family only, please keep this to yourself.

Give me a shout to set up your trip,
Ryan

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Dec. 11 – 13

It has been a nice week here in Cabo San Lucas, cooler for sure. Good news is, Dorado are back! Let’s see how long they stick around.

Sunday, the 11th we had the Stelmach’s, Daniel and Colette out on Tantrum with Captain Manuel and Mate Edgar where they were able to reel in 3 Dorado. The following day, Monday, they went out again on Tantrum and fished the Golden Gate and caught and released a 100lb Striped Marlin. They also caught 3 more Dorado, one of which was small, so they released it so it could grow up to be a bigger, better catch some day.

Also on Sunday we had the Eilands, Sandy, Peter and Gary along with Ashley Crow aboard our 31′ Bertram, RedRum with Captain Omar and Mate Americo. These guys also fished the Golden Gate, had kind of a slow day, but did not come back empty handed, they brought back 2 Dorado, which was nice for a meal after a long day on the water.

Lou Wheeler and his crew, Cindy Wheeler, Frank Kapriva and Nancy Oruka had a great day fishing out on El Nuevo, with Captain Alex and Mate Jesus pulling in 7 Yellowfin Tuna in all. Lou came back in the following day to let us know that they had a good day, the boat was nice and they enjoyed the smooth sailing.

The Marlin Queen set off on Sunday with 3 couples, Tera and Jason Schatz, Grant and Cherie Mortenson and Kara and Ryan Walker. Danny was their Captain, Chito their mate. They enjoyed a nice day catching a total of 11 Yellowfin Tuna.

On Monday, brothers Mike and Gary Wallis headed off on RumRunnin with Captain Javier and Mate Juan. Gary caught a nice size Wahoo while together they caught 4 Dorado. Mark was happy to have been able to see two Whales breaching. He said it was an awesome sight.

On Monday and Tuesday we had John and Bob Burckert along with Beth and Jim Hageman. They started off on RedRum with Omar and Americo out by the Golden Gate and reeled in 8 Dorado. They released one that was too small to take home. The next day they headed out on the Marlin Queen with Captain Danny and Mate Chito. They had a slower day, but they managed to land a Striped Marlin and 2 more Dorado. Great job!

Lastly on Tuesday we had Ryan McGrohn along with Jo Ryder and Mike Crotty out on El Nuevo with Captain Jesus 3 and Mate Jesus 2. They had an EXCELLENT day boating a total of 18 Yellowfin Tuna. We are glad these guys chose to fish with Redrum this time in Cabo, we hope they return in the future.

Until Next Time,
Tiffany
