Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Weekend Wrap Up Feb 24-26

Hey guys! I hope everybody has had an enjoyable weekend thus far. The fishing around here has been mediocre to say the least, but the current has changed and the warmer waters have moved a little closer to the shore.

Friday we had a shared charter consisting of David Elder and his wife, Seth Wright and Danielle Cormier (he was French :) . These guys headed out on RumRunnin with Captain Jesus (Tio Pato) and Mate Jesus (Jaiva). These guys came back in super excited about their day, reeling in a large Striped Marlin that all of them took turns fighting to the boat. David Elder decided he had had so much fun, he booked for his next trip to Cabo. Awesome job guys!

Pat and Dawn Cairus were out for a full day on El Nuevo with Cappy Alex and Mate Jesus (Chuy). Pat came in the office saying that he REALLY wanted to catch a Mako Shark. I had my fingers crossed for him, as those are not so common, but when he came back to the office having caught and released 2 Striped Marlin, he wasn’t complainin’! He said he just wanted to catch a “big one” and that he did.

We had Greg Nunes and Dan Transtrum out on Tantrum with Manuel and Edgar. They spent the day going offshore, coming back in, going all around trying to spot some big fish. Unfortunately they had no luck on the water. It seemed they never were in the right place at the right time. They decided to give it another go on Tuesday, we sure do hope they reel in something worthwhile! We will keep you posted!

Bruce Billings, Bruce Frampton and Randy Dodge were out on RedRum for two days of fishing with Captain Omar and Mate Americo. The first day out, Friday, the Bruce’s both pulled in a Striped Marlin. Day two Randy and Bruce Frampton each reeled in Striped Marlin. They also had 3 Yellowtail on, but unfortunately, lost all three. They signed up again for Sunday, they are not back as of my post, but as soon as they arrive, I will update my blog!

Mark Dekruf and buddy Keith were out for a second day of fishing and were supposed to be out on ReelRum, but since we have removed Reel from the water to do some fiberglass work, we had to get them on one of our partner boats, Anzuelo II. They had absolutely no luck out there, said they saw a “couple” of Marlin, but could not get anything on the line. Saturday they were at it again, this time on Miranda with Captain Ramon and Mate Jesus. Finally, Mark landed his Striped Marlin, 160lbs, that he was longing for and Keith caught a Mako Shark, both were released, they also caught a SkipJack. We are glad both guys were able to land their catch.

Two really nice gentlemen, Daryl Brown and Chris Wuerz went off on RumRunnin on Wednesday and had a good day, but wanted more, so they were back here on Saturday to give it another whirl. Unfortunately, that whirl was more like a half-turn when they came back without any fish, but they said they still had a great time. I am sure we will see them again real soon!

Lance and Tom Neilson, who were also here on Wednesday and had fun, decided to book again for Saturday as well. They were out on El Nuevo with Alex and Jesus, and they had an equally disappointing day on the water. As seasoned fisherman, they know the up’s and down’s of “catching” and will hopefully be back around to try their luck again!

Sunday we had the Hutson’s, Kevin, Randall, Catherine and Glenda out for a 1/2 day of fishing on RumRunnin with Javier and Manuel. They stayed on the inshore right past the Arch and traveled up by Migriño Beach. These guys returned to the office happy with 3 Yellowtail in tow and looking for a place to have it cooked up!

Well, I am heading out to pick my Mom and Dad up from the airport! Yay! Thanks for Reading!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb. 23

What a windy day in Cabo! The waters were a choppy white-capped mess. All of our anglers managed to stay out for for their full days despite the conditions. Our boats were mainly on the Sea of Cortez, where the water has been a little warmer, only having to travel about 15-20 miles out.

Jessica and Wally Mlynarski, a really nice couple from the ATL (Atlanta, GA) were hoping to have a great day on the water with Javier and Jesus 1 aboard RumRunnin. They had a great day catching 2 Dorado, a Wahoo and a Striped Marlin. They were in Cabo to get away and relax after hearing some bad news, so we hope they were able to have some fun and we wish them the best with their future plans!

Jeff Volkman and his crew were back out with us on RedRum with Omar and Americo. They had a little more luck today, catching and releasing 4 Roosterfish. We will see these guys again “reel” soon!

Scott Weaver and his clan decided to end their three day fishing journey with a sunset cruise on EL Nuevo RedRum. They did not do a lot of fishing, just stayed on the inshore due to all the wind and eventually ended up finishing their day right here at the dock! We hope they had fun, we sure did like having them!

Mike Easton, Alex Alexandrov and Todd Manley were off on Tantrum for a full day with Manuel and Edgar. They caught 3 Yellowfin Tuna, one weighing around 45 lbs, 2 Dorado and a Striped Marlin that was around 8 ft long which they released. They will finish off their day at Misiones de Kino where their fish will be prepared just right!

Richard Moore and Richard Hill were out for a second day of fishing on ReelRum with Ramon and Juan. They were able to reel in 4 Roosterfish, which they released. Great job guys!

Last but not least we had Jill Grugnale along with her husband and two sons, were out on Miranda with Captain Ramon and Mate Jesus. They wanted to stay pretty close to shore but still managed to catch and release a couple of SkipJack. We are glad they did not get sick, which they were worried about, especially with so much wind!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb 22

Nuevo came back today after a great bite out at Margarita. Captain Alex on board with Sorina Dinescu and Iris, Lance and Tom Nielsen had a day full of action! So much so that they booked again for Saturday. Lance raked in a monster 180 lb. Striped Marlin that took him a good 35 minutes to reel in, which they released. The action didn’t stop there with the catch and release of 4 Roosterfish , 1 Yellowtail, 8 Sierra and 1 Jack Crevalle. Looking forward to seeing you guys again on Saturday.

Mark & Keith started out on ReelRum this morning, but due to a broken hose we had them head out on Mucho Loco. We greatly appreciate your understanding guys that boat can be boats. They headed out on the Sea of Cortez and were in the midst of a lot of jumping Striped Marlin. For Keith it was his first ever Billfish!!! A huge congrats to you for the 150 pounder that you caught and released. Looking forward to hosting you guys on the water Friday & Saturday.

It was the last of 3 days fishing for the Carey party. After much success the last couple days fishing Bart and his crew caught and released 2 Roosterfish along shore. They didn’t see as much Marlin action as Mark & Keith but have had a great time fishing with us the last few days. Looking forward to having you guys back!

Scott & Michael headed out on TantRum. They were looking for some Marlin action out on the Pacific side where they ended up about 10 miles out from the Lighthouse. They caught a monster 180 lb. Striped Marlin on a lure that they caught and released. And it put on a fight! Taking them about 45 minutes to reel it in. Great job guys.

Chris & Daryl from California and Florida headed out with Captain Javier. They were in search of Dorado and geared towards the Sea of Cortez at the 1150. They had a bit of luck with 1 good sized bull weighing about 30 lbs. You better believe they brought her in to eat her for dinner! They had such a great time they booked again for Saturday.

We are getting booked up people, so if you’re thinking about fishing with RedRum… don’t Think just Do It!

Thanks for reading.

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb 21st

Today was a nice smooth day out on the water, most of our clients fished on the inshore and had lots of luck, unfortunately the ones who decided to go for the Marlin, were not so lucky…..

First up, We had Ian Michelich and buddy Matt Fede on a shared charter with brothers Dale and Dennis Wunderlich and Brother-in-law Steven Tansgrud. These guys had lots of fun out on RedRum with Captain Omar and Mate Americo, reeling in 3 Yellowtail, 2 Roosterfish, and a Skipjack.
All these guys decided to have their fish cooked up at Misiones de Kino, Yum – O!

Recently hitched Dave Fremouw went out with Dad Jeff and buddies Jarret Wood and Chad Pankalla. They were out on El Nuevo with Jesus 2 (Chuy) and Jesus 3 (Tio Pato). LOT’s of Jesus’ around here!! They too had a good day catching 2 Roosterfish and 17 Spanish Mackerel. They are also going to have their fish cooked up for dinner.

Scott Weaver and Susan’s second day on the water with Javier and Jesus 1 (Jaiva) on RumRunnin was successful once again. They did a half day today and stayed on the inshore. They caught 2 Jack Crevalle, 2 Roosterfish, a Yellowtail and a Triggerfish.

For Dan Tucker and buddy Tim, this was their second day off of their Carnival cruise and onto our boat, Tantrum, with Manuel and Edgar. They had another successful day, being the only one in our fleet to catch a Marlin, Striped about 130lbs. They also reeled in a nice sized Dorado.

Today was the first of two days out on the water for buddies Richard Moore and Richard Hill. The set out on ReelRum with Ramon and Juan looking to reel in some Marlin. They saw a few, but had no luck getting any close to the boat. Maybe Thursday they will try again or stick to the inshore for a better chance at some catchin’. Either way, we will have our fingers crossed!

Jacob Stappler and pal Mica Trani were at it again today on Miranda. They were looking to change it up a bit after both catching their Marlin yesterday, so they stayed on the inshore. They caught 8 Spanish Mackerel, 2 Roosterfish and a Yellowtail. We hope when the urge hits them to come South of the border again, they will look us up!

Chuck Chevalier and friends, Laura Taylor and Charles headed out on the Marlin Queen with Danny and Chito for a full day also looking for Marlin. They had a moment where one was on the line, but lost it in the end. They had no other chances throughout the day, unfortunately, and came back empty-handed. They will be back at it on Thursday though, maybe their luck will change!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb. 20

Happy Monday everybody. We never really get the Monday blues around here, it is like Friday all week long! The water has calmed down a lot since last week and the sun is shining and warming up the slight nip we have recently had in the air. We were mainly along the Sea of Cortez, trying to get into some warmer water.

Today we had Dan Tucker and buddy Tim coming off a Carnival Cruise. They went out on Tantrum with Manuel and Edgar for a full day of fishing. They were pretty happy with the turn out, catching and releasing a Striped Marlin, 1 Yellowtail and a Bonito.

Next up, we had Jeff Volkman who works for RedRum on occasion out on RedRum with his crew and Captain Omar and Mate Americo. They did not have a lot of luck, though they did at some point have 4 Striped Marlin on the line, and one almost all the way to the boat, they never managed to pull one up close enough to snap a photo. They will be back on Thursday though and we hope their luck changes!

The Laborde family, including Ann,Tommy, John, Michelle and Sarah, were back at it today, this time heading offshore to try for a Marlin bite. They had no luck with the Marlin and only managed to pull in 1 Skipjack, which they released. They were still in good spirits and decided to end their night at one of our favorite spots, Misiones de Kino.

Scott Weaver, who is signed up for three days of fishing here at RedRum, started out his first day with Susan and another friend on RumRunnin with Javier and Jesus 1. They had an eventful day, catching a Striped marlin that was 8ft. 8in. in length weighing around 140. They also pulled in 3 Skipjack which they released and an Amberjack, which they had cooked up for dinner.

Jacob Stappler and Mica Trani walked into the office after deciding to take a spur of the moment trip to cabo and not having planned their fishing. We did not have any boats available this week, so we put them on a Partner boat, Miranda with Captain Ramon and Mate Jesus. They had an awesome day, each one Catching and Releasing a Striped Marlin. They will be back at it tomorrow!

I met an awesome couple this week, Wes and Sally Finley. They were here this weekend shooting the breeze with me and I got to know them a little. They have been fishing with us in the past and were excited about their trip back out with us. Noone was sadder than me when they came back to the office and said they did not get so much as a bite. They seemed ok, said that was how fishing is, and they are right, but it sure isn’t any fun! At leaset I met some really nice people out of the whole deal and I am sure they will be back around at some point!

Until Next Time,

Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas – Feb. 18 – 19 Weekend Wrap Up

Finally the winds have died down and we are movin’ offshore! The Striped Marlin have been ready to eat and our clients are reaping the benefits!

Saturday morning we had friends Robert Pressler, Shawn Offenbacher, Sheryl and Sean Cream were off on El Nuevo with Alex and Jesus 2 fishing offshore on the Pacific side. They had lots of fun on the boat with Sheryl and Sean reeling in the catch of the day, a 150lb Striped Marlin that they fought to the boat for over 1/2 an hour, then released to fight another day.

Next up we had Bart “Dr. Doom” Carey and buddy “Shanus” Peacock in here who said they were going to throw “mad DS’s” at all the Striped Marlin in the sea. If anyone knows what DS is, please fill me in, they would not tell me! They set out for two days in a row fishing on RedRum with Captain Omar and Mate Americo. Saturday, Shanus reeled in a huge Striped Marlin that was around 220 lbs, check out the photo. Sunday, both guys reeled in a Striped Marlin a piece both around 150lbs. They will be back out on Wednesday to catch some more, we wish them luck!

Mark Horning, Heather Burnett, Colleen Rohner and Aaron Kennedy were on the Marlin Queen with Captain Danny and Mate Chito. They had a good day catching 1 Yellowfin Tuna, 1 Yellowtail and releasing a 140 lb Striped Marlin.

Greg and son Ryan Miller decided to do a full day of fishing out on Tantrum with Manuel and Juan. They fished out past the 1150 on the Pacific side. I could tell 13 year old Ryan (he will be 14 in 2 days;) had been fishing before, he was super excited to get out there and reel in a big one, and that he did! Ryan caught and released a 150lb Striped Marlin all by himself AND 2 Yellowtail. Dad Greg reeled in a Yellowtail as well.

A really nice family, the Laborde’s are here on one of our Play and Stay packages and started out their fishing journey with Captain Alex and Mate Jesus on El Nuevo. Tommy and Ann, along with daughters Sarah and Michelle and son John decided to do all inshore fishing the first day and caught 35 Spanish Mackerel and a Yellowtail. They did not keep any of the Spanish Mackerel but said Dad Tommy was going to grill up the Yellowtail for dinner, yummy!

Until Next Time,

Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb 16 & 17

If you like catching Spanish Mackerel, you would have had a great time fishin’ the past few days! The winds have still been pretty bad, so nobody has braved the offshore.

Thursday buddies Scott Makemson, Todd Hooper, and Greg Cofelt set out on Tantrum for a full day of fishing aboard Tantrum with Captain Manuel and Mate Edgar. They fished up past Playa Migrino and reeled in 4 Spanish Mackerel.

On the Marlin Queen we had 6 friends, John Martillo, Mark Litwin, Dennis Crump, Steve Hicks, Max Reising and Steve Martinez with Captain Danny and Mate Chito. They caught 4 Spanish Mackerel and released a Pompano.

Friday morning, Ron and Sandi Kier in from Mile Valley, CA went out on Tantrum for a full day. They too had plenty of luck with the Mackerel, reeling in 5.

Adam Lenhart, Johnathan Schuler, Adam Bressdan, Mark Hoffman and Theresa Steford took off on RumRUnnin with Captain Javier for a full day. These guys looked like they were ready to have a good time when they left the office this morning. They reeled in 6 Spanish Mackerel. They enjoyed their day.

Ty Miller, a good friend of RedRum, brought in some hunting buddies to fish with us, Danny Webb, Steve Powelson and Randy and Barbara Hancock. These guys had not had much luck hunting, so they thought they might give fishing a try. They did not do too bad, they caught 2 Spanish Mackerel. They told me Barbara reeled them both in and they did not feel much different about the fishing than they did about the hunting! They said both were pretty slow. We would have to agree with that one!

Mark Noonan and Colleen Snobl along with Dominic Noonan and Amanda McKinnon came in fired up about their day on the water. They were to be fishing with Alex and Jesus 2 on El Nuevo. They too got the Spanish Mackerel to the boat, 3 of them to be precise.

Last but not least we had 7 guys in from Orange County CA in for a yearly retreat (must be nice!) for Arbitech. Andrew Stewart, Ian Shively, Shane Tucker, Francisco LLaca, Dave Williams and cousins Jim and Kevin Whalen headed out on Fearless for a full day with Captain Benito. It was pretty cold here in Cabo and with them used to the Orange County Sunshine, the sea breeze was pretty frigid. They ended up catching the same as all the other boats, Spanish Mackerel. We sure do hope they will visit again during their next yearly retreat!

Until Next Time,

Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb. 15

Well the winds have calmed down significantly today compared to the last two days which has made for a great inshore bite!

Captain Alex and Mate Jesus took out Don & Valerie Senter and their friends Rita & Tom Montgomery. Long time RedRum clients we were glad to see their smiling faces back in our office and on our boats! They headed out towards Golden Gate on the Pacific side about a mile from shore where they were able to catch 9 Yellowtail! And BIG ones too! The Rapala lures were catching them like crazy and those 30-35 pound beasts were giving them quite a fight. These Dallas folks were happy with their catch and are excited to be dining with their catch on a platter at Misiones de Kino.

A sweet couple Levi and Holly headed out with Ramon on ReelRum. Coming down from British Columbia they were excited to be on the warm waters. Fishing also in the Golden Gate area about a mile from shore they were able to reel in one good sized Yellowtail!

We had Mark & Sharon Pretzer head out with Captain Javier on RumRunnin after arriving on their Carnival cruise boat. They stayed inshore along Migrino at Margarita and were able to pull in 6 Skip Jacks weighing around 15 pounds each. Not a bad day despite coming in early after feeling a bit under the weather. Looking forward to having you guys back on the water again soon!

Thanks for reading!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb 13 & 14 Happy Valentines Day!!

The beginning of the week has started off super windy with choppy water and huge swells. These guys braved it, but only one boat braved the offshore. This is how it went down.

Raymond Murry and Maureen Fleming tried their luck again today, this time on RumRunnin, but since the water was so choppy they decided to head out on the Sea of Cortez. We have not had much luck over there, but the water was calmer. They did not have much luck there either. They came back empty handed this time and decided they would try to go again when the wind calms down a little. We hope that is soon!

Kevin and Terrissa Kercher from Canada were a little iffy when they came in Monday morning, but decided to give it a go anyway. They stayed on the inshore aboard Tantrum with Manuel and Americo. They had a great day, catching and releasing 2 Roosterfish, and boating 9 Sierra (Spanish Mackerel).

Seasoned anglers Doug Dollhopf and Roger Bartz from Wisconsin were not at all afraid to brave the 10 foot swells about 27 miles out on the Pacific side. They were looking for Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna. They said they could not see anything in the chop except for large schools of porpoise and that is when the fun began. With waves crashing all around them and Captain Manuel “Mickey” screaming, “The Porpoise, the porpoise”, they knew the Yellowfin were close by, all of a sudden they heard the “zing” of the lines one at a time. They ended up baoting 5 Yellowfin Tuna and were very happy with the outcome. Although all of them came back soaking wet, they could not have been happier with the outcome of their day. They enjoyed their tuna cooked up about 6 different ways over at Misiones de Kino and said the whole experience was so worth it.

Tuesday the winds were no less fierce than Monday and one of our groups came in and decided to postpone their trip to the next day since their boat was still available. Others decided to brave the rough water and give it a go.

Friends Blake and Jaclyn Disher, Matt and Jessica Moreno, Chris Salazar and Kimberly Massaro were off on RumRunnin for a full day with Captain Javier and Omar. They decided to keep it on the safe side and fish along the shoreline. They had fun and caught 10 Spanish Mackerel along the way.

I met a really nice family, Scott and Linda May along with daughter Heidi and boyfriend Edmund Wilson on Monday. They decided to book a full day on Tantrum for Tuesday, but when they arrived at the office and the waters were they way they were, they were a little skeptical. Since another party bailed on their day, we upgraded them to that boat, the El Nuevo, in hopes they may have a better experience on the rough seas. They caught 6 Spanish Mackerel before the majority of them succumbed to the chop. They were back in early despite the larger boat.

Scott Muldoon and Tom Keeler braved the day on ReelRum with Captain Ramon and Mate Juan. They too opted to stay inshore fishing and scored 1 Yellowtail.

Here’s is to hopin’ the wind winds down real soon!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Feb 8-12 Week Ending Wrap up

Hey guys! The bite is still good along the inshore for Yellowtail, Sierra and Skip Jack. We have not heard much by way of offshore Pacific side for the Marlin and Yellowfin, however, we did have one boat get lucky by heading out there this weekend, read on……

Rich and Elizabeth Schneider, Scott and Stephanie Herman, and Sarah and Menard Doswell all friends down for a couple of days of fishing went out Thursday with just the boys on ReelRum and caught 25 Sierra (Spanish Mackerel). On Friday the whole gang was out with Captain Alex and Mate Jesus still inshore fishing, they boated 6 Yellowtail and 20 more Sierra. They enjoyed their catch at Missiones de Kino after going on a wine & cheese sunset cruise.

Susan Klock and Norm Smith were at it again after coming back in on Wednesday due to the wind and huge swells out on the water. They stayed on the inshore and fished with Captain Manuel and Mate Edgar. They ended up having a great day boating 5 big Yellowtail and 3 Sierra. We are glad they were able to fill up a cooler to take home.

Kyle Leland and his crew were off on RedRum for a 1/2 day of fishin’ with Omar and Americo. They came back in after having caught 12 Sierra.

Paul Iacuele and buddy were off on ReelRum for a full day with Ramon and Juan. They were successful, bringing back 3 Yellowtail and 3 Sierra.

Andrew Kocisky, Zach Barrie and Paul Chrobch went out on RumRunnin with Jesus 2 & 3, Andrew said they “loved it” and would definitely be back. They caught 3 Yellowtail and 12 Sierra. They enjoyed their fresh catch for lunch, right around the corner, at Mango Cantina.

On Saturday, the Bradley’s were out on El Nuevo with Cappy Alex and Manuel. They boated 2 Yellowtail and 8 Sierra.

Baune, party of 4 were out on Shambala, 60′ Hatteras for a full day with Captain T.J. These guys tried their luck on the offshore Pacific side about 26 miles outside 95 bank and were in luck! They had 2 Striped Marlin on the line, lost one, but were able to pull one to the boat and snap a few pictures before they released it. They also boated 5 Yellowfin Tuna. Great Job!!

Geoffrey Stephens, Jeff Rolph and Joe Geotz, three funny guys, came in ready to fish Sunday morning. They headed out on El Nuevo with Alex and Jesus. They had a great time catching 3 Yellowtail and releasing a Skip Jack. Check out Geoff with his nice size Yellowtail in the photo.

Maureen Fleming and Raymond Murray were in here for a full day of fishing on ReelRum with Captain Javier and Mate Juan. These seasoned fisherman took to the waters with high hopes. They started off on the inshore and caught a Sierra and 4 Skipjack before having to head back in due to a little sea sickness. It has been windy the past few days!

Until Next Time!
