The beginning of the week has started off super windy with choppy water and huge swells. These guys braved it, but only one boat braved the offshore. This is how it went down.
Raymond Murry and Maureen Fleming tried their luck again today, this time on RumRunnin, but since the water was so choppy they decided to head out on the Sea of Cortez. We have not had much luck over there, but the water was calmer. They did not have much luck there either. They came back empty handed this time and decided they would try to go again when the wind calms down a little. We hope that is soon!
Kevin and Terrissa Kercher from Canada were a little iffy when they came in Monday morning, but decided to give it a go anyway. They stayed on the inshore aboard Tantrum with Manuel and Americo. They had a great day, catching and releasing 2 Roosterfish, and boating 9 Sierra (Spanish Mackerel).
Seasoned anglers Doug Dollhopf and Roger Bartz from Wisconsin were not at all afraid to brave the 10 foot swells about 27 miles out on the Pacific side. They were looking for Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna. They said they could not see anything in the chop except for large schools of porpoise and that is when the fun began. With waves crashing all around them and Captain Manuel “Mickey” screaming, “The Porpoise, the porpoise”, they knew the Yellowfin were close by, all of a sudden they heard the “zing” of the lines one at a time. They ended up baoting 5 Yellowfin Tuna and were very happy with the outcome. Although all of them came back soaking wet, they could not have been happier with the outcome of their day. They enjoyed their tuna cooked up about 6 different ways over at Misiones de Kino and said the whole experience was so worth it.
Tuesday the winds were no less fierce than Monday and one of our groups came in and decided to postpone their trip to the next day since their boat was still available. Others decided to brave the rough water and give it a go.
Friends Blake and Jaclyn Disher, Matt and Jessica Moreno, Chris Salazar and Kimberly Massaro were off on RumRunnin for a full day with Captain Javier and Omar. They decided to keep it on the safe side and fish along the shoreline. They had fun and caught 10 Spanish Mackerel along the way.
I met a really nice family, Scott and Linda May along with daughter Heidi and boyfriend Edmund Wilson on Monday. They decided to book a full day on Tantrum for Tuesday, but when they arrived at the office and the waters were they way they were, they were a little skeptical. Since another party bailed on their day, we upgraded them to that boat, the El Nuevo, in hopes they may have a better experience on the rough seas. They caught 6 Spanish Mackerel before the majority of them succumbed to the chop. They were back in early despite the larger boat.
Scott Muldoon and Tom Keeler braved the day on ReelRum with Captain Ramon and Mate Juan. They too opted to stay inshore fishing and scored 1 Yellowtail.
Here’s is to hopin’ the wind winds down real soon!
