Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – Weekend Wrap Up

It has been an awesome weekend to be fishing here in Cabo San Lucas. The wind started to pick up on Saturday, a little more on Sunday, but the fishing was right on!

Don Ayers, Joseph Panther and Skylar Badenoch headed out for a 1/2 day of fishing on RedRum with Omar and Americo. They had a great day, catching a Yellowtail, Jack Cravalle, 2 Roosterfish and Skylar caught and released a 132lb Striped Marlin. They took some of their catch around the corner to the Hacienda Cocina & Cantina and said it was 1st rate!

Brad Robinson, Dennis Kirkham and Roger Turnbow did a full day off of ReelRum with Captain Ramon and Mate Juan. They were looking to land some Billfish, so they headed offshore a ways on the Cortez side until they caught and Released a Striped Marlin that looked to be around 140 lbs.

Geoffrey O’Neil set up a trip for his friend, Jeremy Seney who was celebrating his final days of being a bachelor – best wishes Jeremy!! Their whole crew, 10 guys in total set off on the 50′ Viking Fearless for a 1/2 day with Cappy Benito. They had a great time and even caught a Striped Marlin.

Brandon Armstrong and friends Kevin and Khaki Dobbs are here on our Play and Stay Package with the CCA. Brandon’s wife did not get to come along because she is with child and preferred to be relaxing by the pool, can’t blame her there! We hope she joins us when they come back next time! They were fishing off of El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Jesus. These guys caught the first Wahoo I have seen this year, and it was not small either! They are taking it over to Misiones de Kino for Dinner. On Saturday morning, they were back here bright and early to give it another go. Today they fished a little ways offshore and Khaki caught the biggest fish of the day, and her first ever Striped Marlin that came in around 160lbs. They also caught another Striped Marlin and have opted to take some more of their Wahoo back to Misiones because they said it was amazing! We are glad they are enjoying their fresh catch!

Saturday we had Alton and Jenny Odom in here for the second time with us this trip, they will be back a third too! Now, I don’t know if I am biased, or if it is simply because these folks are from NC, but I sure did take a shine to them :) They were out on ReelRUm with Ramon and Juan and caught 2 Yellowtail, 4 Skipjack and 2 Jack Cravalle. Great day on the water!

Dennis and Shams Jaboro were out on Colleens Magic with Captain Chary and Mate “Cha Cha”. Shams was humoring Dennis by going on the fishing trip, since she did not really care for it. As it turned out, Shams was the one who caught a HUGE Striped Marlin and had a great time doing do. It took her about 20 minutes to reel it in. It was her first time ever fishing, so she had some pretty nice beginners luck! If I can ever get her photo downloaded, you guys will see just how big it was!

Sunday Morning we had concierge Renato Rios in here fishing with his buddies off of ReelRum for the day. These guys stayed mostly by Chileno on the Sea of Cortez and caught a Striped Marlin.

Lastly, we had buddies, John Cook, Josh Fernandez, Tim Zacharias and Dean Bassey out on Tantrum for the day with Manuel and Alex. They had an amazing day starting out on the Pacific side, cathcing 2 Yellowtail then running all the way out to the 1150 on the Cortez for some Marlin fishing. Dean caught a huge Striped Marlin that was 120 inches long and Manuel said was around 180lbs….WOW! Josh caught the second Stipe, 105 inches and weighing in a little smaller at around 150. They also caught around 7-8 Skipjack. Nice job guys!

Until Next time,

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report-April 25th & 26th

Ok, so I spent the last two days enjoying beautiful Cabo San Lucas, away from the office. I did not get to see how anyone did on the water, but thankfully Ryan left me some notes! So, here is how the past couple of days went down……

Friday we had Robert Dean out on ReelRum with Captain Ramon and Mate Juan. He did a full day of fishing and caught 2 Striped Marlin and a Dorado.

John Maurer and his crew headed out on Big Papi for an 8 hour day of fishing. They did not fare as well as the Dean’s and came back empty handed.
I hope they enjoyed their day in spite of not catching any fish…….

Alton and Jenny Odom started out their three day fishing spree on Reelrum. They had a great day, hooking 5 Striped Marlin, catching and releasing 1 and catching a 45lb Dorado. They will be back on Saturday for some more action!

Matthew, Larry and Helen Herter along with Heather Rose, set out on RumRunnin for a full day with Captain Javier. They had a successful day, catching and releasing 3 Striped Marlin.

Kevin Scultz who we have been talking to back and forth through e-mails to the past couple of weeks finally got his day on the water with pal Steve Lausch. They had a great day, catching 3 Roosterfiah, a Yellowtail and about 5 SkipJack.

Last but not least, we had Jerry Rost out on RedRum with Captain Omar and Americo. He had a great day catching a 170 lb Striped Marlin.

Until Next Time,
Tiffany

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – April 23 & 24

This morning we had family Bob and Jeanette Smith along with Ken and Kevin Parr out on ReelRum for a full day with Ramon and Juan. The had the best showing of all the boats today, fishing along the inshore on the Sea of Cortez. They caught 5 Spanish Mackerel, a Trigger fish and Ken pulled in a 4′ Mako Shark. They also had a couple of Striped Marlin bites, but lost them.

Father and son duo, Thomas and Chris Wozny took to the Sea of Cortez close to San Jose on RumRunnin with Javier and Jesus 2. They caught 6 Spanish mackerel and the first Dorado we have seen here in a while that was small, but still around 20lbs.

Buddies Erinn Schorsch, Anthony Phelps, Rokha Na and Jason Uhte came in the office feeling the “burn” from a fun night in Cabo. They had their game faces on through and were ready to get into the fish. They hooked up 4 Spanish Mackerel and will have it cooked up for dinner tomorrow night.

Bill Parker, Brtent Arthur, Sheri Cermain and Sara Burke were out on RedRum for the day with Omar and Americo. They wanted to try their luck with the Marlin and headed out passed the 1150 bank on the Cortez side. They caught and released a 130 lb Striped Marlin.

Tuesday morning we had a nice couple, Rick Monce and Fumiko Yarita in for a “bucket list” fishing trip with Ramon and Juan on ReelRum. Rick sais Fumiko was super excited and has ALWAYS wanted to go deep sea fishing. She was looking for something big, and she found it! She caught and released 130lb Striped as did her partner in crime Rick. They were both happy to have gotten the opportunity. On the way back in Fumiko also got the chance to feed and pet our “friendly neighborhood sea-lion” Pancho. Unfortunately, Pancho was REALLY hungry and bit her fingers…… She is ok though, just a flesh wound it was! She will make it to fish another day, thank GOODNESS!

Buddies Jerry Rost and Ted Thompson opted for a 1/2 day of inshore fishing on Tantrum with Manuel and Javier. They had a great time, caught a nice size Yellowtail, a roosterfish and quite a few Skipjack. Jerry says he wants to come back later on in the week to do it again. We hope so!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – The Weekender…….

We are still fishing on the Sea of Cortez, water is still not warm enough on the Pacific side to warrant a trip over there as of yet.

Saturday morning Brooks Tomblin joined us for a 1/2 day of fishing. He was on a Marlin mission. He headed out on ReelRum with Ramon and Juan, eyes peeled. He caught and released a 140 lb Striped not too far away, was completely satisfied and headed back early, he was back by 10.30AM!

Kathy and Steve Cordova along with their crew, Kim, Justin and Estevan were back at it for a second time this week. They were fishing over by Santa Maria beach and caught 5 Spanish Mackerel.

Jeff Marsden and Kerri Donlon who were just hitched the day before, joined Alex, Scott and Bill Marsden along with Shawn Donlon for a second time on Big Papi. They were hoping their luck would change from their previous day on the water, but there was no such luck. They came back in the office still exhilarated from the day, they said the guys on the boat worked so hard (actually the quotes they used are not “family friendly” for my blog:) that they will definitely be back just to fish with us. They said they are sure if the fish were hungry, they would have been catching. We hope when they come back, the fish will be STARVING!!

El Jefe, John Donovan along with buddy Troy were out on El Nuevo for the day with all the other Captain and Mates. They had a great day catching 2 Spanish Mackerel and a Grouper and releasing 2 Striped marlin.

Sunday, we had the other part of the Marsden wedding crew out on Big Papi. Ron Penska, Tracey and Todd Young and Bill, Joe and Will Murray headed out this time in hopes of landing a Marlin. They were in luck! Tracey caught the first, a 180lb Striped Marlin and 11 year old Will worked almost a 1/2 an hour reeling in his own 150 pounder, it was his first ever! Great job guys!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – April 19th&20th

The guys are still fishing mostly on the Sea of Cortez with the Marlin by the Gordo Banks or 1150, with some Spanish Mackerel and Roosterfish on the inshore.

The first day on the water for the Cordova party, who are here on one of our Play and Stay packages, resulted in a double Striped Marlin catch! Steve Cordova pulled in the largest, about 135 lbs and 8 feet long. They also caught and released another of equal size. They were really close-by too, right out passed the Arch. Awesome job guys!

Durhon Oldham was back at it again, this time with different company, Ginny Crew and Jason Adamo. They did a full day on RedRum with Omar and America. They had a great day, catching and releasing 2 Striped Marlin. They were fishing the Gordos.

Also on the Gordo Banks were Chris and McKenzie Walsh. These Washington natives were enjoying the sun of Cabo and caught a Striped Marlin. They had a great time fishing with us and were a super nice couple, we sure do hope to see them back real soon!

Alana Knowles and her party, Cameron Barker, Natalie Smith and Ben Eager went out on the Marlin Queen for a 1/2 day with Danny and Chito. Unfortunately, they were not able to get into much fish on their trip. Maybe next time!

We had a shared charter on Tantrum with Rick Horchick, Steven Moore and Greg Smith for a full day with Captain Manuel. Now, I hate to say I have no idea what these boys caught, but it is true. They did not come back and tell me any “stories” so I must leave their story to your imagination! Now, if any of you guys read my report and would like to comment, please do, we sure would love to tell your story!

Jeff Marsden and his family, Alex, Lauren, Caroline and Scott were out on Big Papi for a full day with Julio and Ulysses. They had a good day but got skunked……….. They will be back this Saturday to give it another go!

Friday Morning we had buddies Mark Van Den Boss, Joe Leininger and Neil Hutzol head out on Tantrum for an 8 hour full-day. They spent the day “ALMOST” catching Marlin. They had one on the line for about a half an hour before he was over it and decided to spit the hook. They had one more bite and that was about it for the day. We hope they have better luck next time!!

Fishing for the third time on this trip were my Canadian buddies Terry Norring and Anna Vatter, only this time with friends Shawna Davey and Shaun Fedorchuk. I was crossing my fingers when they left this morning as Terry told me to “pray for a big one”, well, my prayers were answered! They caught 2 Striped Marlin, each of the guys, and came back pleased with their day. These guys were great and I sure hope this is not the last I see of them!

Cabo San Lucas Fish Report – April 16th & 17th

Monday morning we had a big group of wedding attendees out fishing on El Nuevo with Alex and Jesus. Cam Withers, Kim and TIm Martin, Doug Romig and Levi and Kera Chipps had a great time and pulled in a 140 lb Striped Marlin that measured 116 inches. They told me, “The GIRL had one on, but SHE lost it…..” she was probably the one who REALLY reeled the second one in anyway………

We had a shared charter with pairs, Alexandra Von Ballmoos and Michael Needham and buddies Mark Bridges and Robert Belliveiu. They headed out on Tantrum with Captain Manuel. Unfortunately Alexandra and Michael had to head back early due to some sea sickness, but Mark and Rob went back out and caught and released 3 Roosterfish and a Jack Cravalle.

Josh Mathis and his gang were also here as part of a wedding party and were out on Colleens Magic. They had a good day “almost” landing a Marlin, then finally catching and releasing 1 Striped. Great job guys!

Tuesday morning Dad Jim Lineberger took sons, Jeff and Brad out for a Father/Son fishing trip. They did a 1/2 day of inshore fishing with Manuel on Tantrum and had a lot of fun catching 9 Sierra.

Buddies Jim Bianchi and Durhon Oldhan who are here on a “work” trip decided to do a 1/2 day of fishing aboard RedRum with Omar and Americo. They were just looking for Marlin, and they were in luck! They caught a big Striped Marlin that was 9 feet long and weighed 182lbs.

Last but not least we had Tim O’neil and Barbara Contino out on Colleen’s Magic for the day with Captain Chary and Mate Tony. They had a lot of fun catching 1 Yellowtail and releasing a Roosterfish.

David Alonso and son David were out again on Tantrum. David Jr. got a lot more action today, catching 10 Spanish Mackerel! They had it cooked up right around the corner and David Jr. even brought me back some to the office, he already knows how to please a lady! They said they would be back, we sure hope so.

Mark and Monica Young were out on ReelRum for the day with Ramon and Juan looking for Marlin. Mark has always wanted to catch a Marlin and he was in luck! Sunday was Johns last day fishing and decided to go it solo on Sunday with his wife, they had a great time, catching a Striped Marlin a piece. Great job guys!

Jeremy Robinson, Jeromie Kufflick and Rob Skilnick were back out on Big Papi for a second day Saturday and one upped themselves from the day before, catching and releasing 3 Striped Marlin. I assumed each of the guys caught one, but they let me know that Kufflick got greedy since he did not catch the day before and pulled in the largest a 180 pounder and another smaller one. Robinson caught the other that was around 160 lbs. Sunday, their last day out there they caught 1 more Striped Marlin and a Blue Shark. They had a great few days on the water and were exhausted Sunday afternoon, I hope they get some rest after their “vacation”!

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report- April 10th

Hola amigos,

Offshore fishing is picking up lately, and the inshore bite is still super solid. Marlin have been all over the Gordo Banks area, but they are gorging themselves on squid, making it tougher to get them to eat live bait. Having some good success on artificial baits though. Inshore we are still targeting Sierra, Roosterfish, Yellowtail, Bonita, Skipjack, etc.

Matthew Hetland was first up today, he took his two little girls out for a day on the water and they had a great time with Captain Memo. They saw whales and dolphins so that was success enough for the girls but Dad wanted a Marlin. They pitched bait to 6 different fish, backing down from 100lb leader all the way to 40lb leader before they got a bite. Unfortunately, with only 40lb leader the fish broke the line after a short fight. Matthew has two more days, we’ll get him one. If not a few.

Tim Evenson, Tom Nielson and Greg Hawes joined the crew of Rum Runnin today and after getting a look at the rough seas, they decided to stay inshore and catch more fish rather than head out looking for Marlin. They definitely won the mixed bag award today, catching Sierra, Jack Crevalle, Yellowtail, Skipjack and Bonita!

Rod Neighbors joined the crew of Big Papi along with his sons and his mother JoAnne. After hearing reports of lots of Marlin straight out of Cabo off the Herradura Bank they started that way. The wind was too much though and they headed up into the Sea of Cortez towards the Gordo Bank. We’re happy to announce that JoAnne caught and released her first Marlin today!

Matt and Lindsey Walker were visiting us today from Northern California and after discussing the bite, they decided they wanted to go for it and go out and get a Marlin. Go big or go home right? Jesus and Manuel headed for the Gordo Banks and they ended up finding the fish 32 miles from Cabo. After pitching bait to a few fish that didn’t want to eat, they finally hooked up about Noon and the fight was on. They passed the rod back and forth, even letting the crew help out a bit. Normally, I might give them a hard time about letting the crew fight the fish for a while but they had a big, feisty Striped Marlin hooked up. Unfortunately, the Marlin was hooked in the gill plate and was bleeding really bad. We hate to bring them in if we don’t have to, but this one we had to. Beautiful Striped Marlin in the 225lb range. Congrats on a great fish guys!
