Good after noon amigos! It has been a great week in Cabo – VERY humid and hot, but this is normal for summertime in Cabo. There have been some overcast days, today the most, which I think has cooled things down a smidge…. Coming off the super moon was not all bad this week. The Dorado bite was still really strong, catching mostly 12- 25/30 pounders this week. LOTS of skipjack/bonita, which the boats ended up using some for chum bait, which is how they caught quite a bot of the Dorado this week. The Billfish bite was not as strong this week.
Monday TJ Agha and crew were back fishing with Team RedRum again on EL Nuevo with Captain Alex. They caught 5 Dorado, a Yellowfin Tuna and a LOT of Bonita. We also had 2 of our boats reel in a Hammerhead shark on Monday, Tantrum with Isaac Ehly and crew, who also reeled in some Dorado and Skipjack. RedRum was the other boat with the Shark along with the Grube fam. They also boated 6 Dorado and reeled in tons of Skipjack – eventful day for these guys! Mark Baldwin and his son Bates along with Ray Knowles – RedRum veteran anglers fished a couple of days this week and they too caught a bunch o’ Dorado.
As the week went on, it was very much the same kind of action. Father son duo had some luck on Tuesday reeling in a Sailfish aboard ReelRum with Captain Ramon and mate Julio. Thursday we saw 3 more lone Striped Marlin catches, ReelRum again with Jeff Westerheide on a 1/2 day trip. He also boated some Dorado and had plenty of action with the Skipjack. Catherine Modlin and crew also got lucky reeling in a Striped Marlin aboard Tantrum and Bobby DelVecchio on RedRum also released a Striped Marlin. They have been pretty hard to come by this week, but not impossible, just got to be in exactly the right spot at exactly the right time…..
The only Blue Marlin caught this week was Thomas James and fam aboard Tantrum on Friday, they caught a nice Blue and released a Striped MArlin. Josh Tihen and his bachelor party guests enjoyed a couple of days on the water on a couple of boats. They caught Dorado and Skipjack mostly, but one in their group did catch about a 65lb Wahoo. Now that is some good eatin’!! Best wishes Josh!
Sunday was the best as far as the Marlin bite was concerned – good news this time was for the 1/2 day boaters that stayed close in – right outside the arch. RedRum with Cody Borches and the VanNuttas on board caught 3 Striped Marlin in all, the largest being 112″ and approximately 165lbs. The other 2 half day boats also released 1 Striped and boated some Dorado. Tony Sandoval went out with his fam for a full day aboard ReelRum and was a little disappointed he did not catch his bucket list Marlin, but he was not completely unlucky! They did catch 7 DOrado and lot’s of SkipJack.
Fishin’ is looking pretty good around here my friends, if you can stand the heat, you should be in Cabo fishing!!
Until next time,
