The FIW comes from 19’s Toy during a Sunset Cruise that took place on Thursday afternoon. Sofi Garza and the rest of her friends from TCU headed out with Gaba and myself. What was supposed to be a nice sunset cruise turned into an amazing whale watching show! The bottom picture was taken without zoom and was no further than 60′ away from out boat! It was awesome!
Tueday, March 8th: PORT CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WINDS AND LARGE SWELLS.
Wednesday, March 9th: A released Marlin, released Blue Shark and a Rooster surfaced after the high winds that blew through yesterday afternoon. The high winds continued and the water temperatures dropped from 77 – 74 almost overnight. We’ll see what that does to the fishing grounds.
Thursday, March 10th: Jesus/Jesus took out a group of TCU Horned Frogs that were down on Spring Break and was able to land them 2 Stripe Marlin on their half-day charter aboard RumRunnin! John Blair, Sam Cummins, Jackson Stickney, John Hughston and Teddy Boschini represented the Frogs and brought the marlin up after 2 short fights! Great job boys! Other reports included Triggerfish and Sierra on the inshore bite.
Friday, March 11th: Brian Robinson from Lake Odessa fished with Ramon and Julian on ReelRum and landed several nice Rooster fish while the Shubats from Crystal Falls, MI had a killer day with Omar and Oscar. RedRum headed out and landed 6 Sierra and an awesome Yellowtail! TopGun had the catch of the day with Ricky O’Quinn and his group of buddies. They landed 2 nice Dorado, 2 RoosterFish and 2 bonita! Dan Aunchman fished with his new buddy Captain Jesus on RumRunnin and although they came up empty handed a new relationship was created and we hope to see more of Dan soon!
Saturday, March 12th: A couple of “no shows” created a lull in the morning excitement but after we dispatched the other 3 boats we had for the day we were moving right along! RedRum, Torito and Halcon headed out with a small group that Russ Knox brought in for a bachelor party. They had a good time catching rooster, sierra, Pompano and Skip Jacks on their half-day outings.
Sunday, March 13th: Dan Aunchman couldn’t imagine leaving town and not getting on the water one last time! We modified some times for him and got him out on the water with Ulises and Jesus for a quick 4 hour trip! They were able to land 2 Amberjack and a SkipJack before Dan had to head to the airport and catch a flight! Pretty cool! Martin Wiesenthal also fished a quick half-day trip on TantRum and released a Jack Crevalle.
Monday, March 14th: Sierra came busting through this morning up the Pacific Coast and they push of fish kept our anglers busier than they have been in a while, including the crew! ReelRum and TantRum fished half-days and ended their day with over 15 Sierra, 7 Jack Crevalles and a couple of RoosterFish that wouldn’t quite cooperate! RedRum fished with James Myer and brought in enough Sierra for a small family as did the Laidley Group on RumRunnin. The Johnsons on El Nuevo fished with Captain Alex and Christian and brought in 4 Sierra, 1 Jack, 1 Toro 1 Snapper and 1 Trigger Fish on their outing!
As you can see the fishing hasn’t been geared toward the Offshore fishing that we are used to but we are doing what we can with what we are given right now! The cooler water temps that pushed through have made the water “greener” than we would like and we aren’t seeing a lot of hungry fish around! We continue to work hard everyday and when the fish come back around we will be sure to get on them!!
