Hola Amigos! Fall is my favorite season of all and it has FINALLY fallen here in Cabo san Lucas (or really, fall – like temps). I love this time of year, it actually feels like Christmas is getting closer! It does mean the water temps have fallen a little bit, they are now around 75 – 80.
There were a large percentage of Striped Marlin caught this week on our boats, and lot’s of Dorado as well. A few Wahoo were to be had if you were lucky! But mostly, our boats were bringing in the Dorado.
Paul Jerod rounded out his fishing trip this Monday releasing 2 Striped Marlin. Most other boats landed Dorado. As did Tracey Ballew and her fella. They boated 5 Dorado the first day of their trip aboard RedRUm, day 2 they caught 3 Striped Marlin and a couple of Dorado. I think Tracey caught the largest one!
This week marked the 1st Annual Los Cabos Big Game Tournament, a free tournament put together by Marlin Magazine where every person who charters a boat in Cabo for the Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving can win cash and prizes up to $25000. If you are not entered for next year you can do so now! We had Austin Palmer and Steven Stell fishing 3 days on 19′s Toy, these East Coast boys tore it up out there, catching 4 Striped Marlin and some Dorado, last day they were in 3rd place for the Wahoo category for a while, but got bumped off in the end. Darin Wagner and his crew also fished 3 days and caught a ton of Dorado, but nothing that won the prize. The Calvetto clan also fished the tourney and Peyton won the Jr. Angler award for Wahoo, Hunter caught a nice Striped Marlin and Nicolas also won Jr. Angler price for his Wahoo and Dorado. Great job for these first year tourney anglers!Micheal Fey and his group had the 3rd place Dorado day 2 as well at 22.8 pounds, Jack Adelman reeled that one in, he lost out in the end though.
RedRum veteran Angler Joe Assenza won the biggest Dorado prize day 1 with a 26.1 Dorado reeled in by buddy Tracy.
Chris Lane fished for 3 days as well catching so much Dorado he took home 2 fish boxes full, but nothing to bring to the scales. Natalie Karnas and clan fished aboard Colleen’s Magic on Saturday to celebrate Jerry Cole’s 40th, Happy Birthday Jerry! They had a knock out day catching a Mako Shark, 11 Dorado, a Wahoo and releasing a Striped Marlin. Heckuva birthday for that guy!
Sunday wasn’t much different with most boats catching Dorado, Jeff Kling and his crew caught their limit in Dorado by 9:30 and landed a nice Striped Marlin, which they released. Dixon and Chrease Okelberry did not have much luck in the tourney, but did catch a ton of Dorado, a Wahoo and released a Striped Marlin.
November is a great time to be in Cabo, the weather is fantastic and the fish are still biting. So, what are YOU waiting for!!
