It’s finally summer time in Cabo San Lucas! The water temperature hit 80° for the first time last week and that means the Blue Marlin, Dorado and Wahoo bites should really start firing.
Last weekend we had the Pelagic Summer Slam Tournament here in Cabo, which kicked off the 2019 tournament season. We had 4 RedRum teams participating and RedRum Captain Ryan Donovan was able to lead his team to victory with a 1st place overall finish in both the Dorado and Wahoo categories. We’re certainly hoping we can keep that momentum and win a few more this year.
The Dorado and Wahoo are obviously biting, but it still hasn’t really become a wide open style bite, I’m expecting that to change any day now though. Yellowfin Tuna have been hard to come by the last month or so, but Captain Hiram on the Beast of Burden found a dozen a few days ago and Captain Ramon on the Oh So Rojo caught 30 on his 3 day overnight trip that got back today.
The Striped marlin bite has stayed consistent over the past few months but I would say this last month was the best. Most boats targeting Marlin have been averaging between 5 and 10 bites a day the last few weeks. With that warm water I mentioned earlier we are eagerly expecting our first Blue Marlin encounter of the year, and I’m guessing it comes within the next 7-10 days.
Still plenty of open dates for July and August, give us a call at 760-481-7667 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
