The Featured Picture of the Week is a family shot (plus Mate Oscar) of the Randal Wren and his family/team on the 2nd morning of the Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot.  The tournament was an overall success in which over 15 teams representing RedRum competed against over 140 boats!

A huge “GRACIAS” to all of the REDRUM boats that competed this year!  We hope everyone had a great time!!  Next year one of us will make it to the podium!

A couple of days leading up to the big tournament the RedRum Crew was still hard at work!  Starting on Tuesday, Captain Juan and Tantrum headed out with Paul and Marvin Needleman and was able to keep his hot hand going!  Captain Juan and Mate Humberto landed 6 nice Mahi for the group!  While pre-fishing for the tournament and having fun with Oscar and Omar the Wrens caught their share of Mahi, limiting out before heading back in!  Not a bad first day!  Jesus/Jesus fishing with the David Vanwart and his team also pre-fished on Tuesday and caught 4 “Dorados Buenos” according to Captain Jesus.  Translated to “Good Dorados”!  Dave Orrico landed a Sailfish along with 4 Dorado on his day out on the water with Alex and Charly on El Nuevo.  The Carnivales ended the day on the marina bringing in the last of the day’s haul on 19’s Toy with Captain Gaba and Mate noe with an additional limit of Mahi ready for the freezer!

Nothing seemed to slow down very much on Wednesday!  We start with Never Give Up and Captain Chito getting after it!  Our friend Captain Luis Zumaeta sent some of his friends down to fish with us including Adriana Williams and the rest of her freinds.  Chito got them on 5 Dorado!  Captain Juan also added an additional 5 Dorado while fishing with Mike Bustamante and his friends aboard TantRum.  Captain Ramon and Mate Julian made the board with 3 Dorado while fishing with Nicolas and Samantha Manos for the day.  Ken Worsham and his party lead the pack today while fishing aboard 31′ Bertram RedRum and Captain Omar.  They were able to bag their limit of Mahi as well as catch & release a Striped Marlin.  Randy and Peggy Munson fished on the 33′ Bertram El Nuevo and ended their day with 1 Striped Marlin caught & released as well as 3 Mahi for dinner and more!!

2015 Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot Recap: The following 2 days were dedicated to the 2015 Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot.  The tournament was the largest in it’s 16 years of existence!  143 teams from all over came down to “land the big one”!  Of that, all of the teams and individual anglers that participated through RedRum had a great time!  For a complete recap of the tournament please go to:  http://www.loscabostunajackpot.com/2015_coverage/review.php.

For me to write a complete recap of all the fun had and what a great time the RedRum family had would take way too long and as I write this we are already signing teams up for next years event.  Don’t miss out!  I personally want to thank Kent Sommers, Joe & Sal Catania, John Donovan and my brother Tommy Vela for letting me a part of their team this year on 19’s Toy.  Great times!!

I’m sure each team that participated has their own stories please send them our way so I can get them published on Facebook and other social media outlets!

*If you are interested in fishing this tournament or any other tournament on a RedRum boat please contact and we can help you out.  There is nothing more excited in the Sportfishing World than being on the water to compete and make your way to the scales!

Saturday was business as usual in the RedRum office!  Our very own John Donovan hosted a group of anglers from Gray FishTag Research which is a collection of individuals from the sportfishing world, led by Gray’s Taxidermy. The team was able to literally tag & release 3 Dorado for research purposes!

Gray FishTag Research is a Non-profit organization.  This is an international and fully interactive fish tagging program powered by the world’s largest network fishing professionals consisting of approximately 10,000 charter boat captains and mates.

The program is initiated to collect information in real-time to produce valuable scientific data, directly from fishermen in every part of the world.  Finally we are connecting professional fishermen with the scientific community who is desperate for relevant data. Results will provide biologists and scientists with valuable information on migration patterns, fish stocks, growth rates, habitat depths and much more. For more information please visit grayfishtagresearch.org.  Ask us how you can get involved and direct all inquires in regards to tagging fish during your charter with us to Luis@redrumcabo.com!  It’s a pretty cool thing as you get to name and track your tagged fish after the process, I’ll even join you on the charter if possible!

Oscar and Omar were right back at it as well, catching and releasing a Sailfish.  The Albers fished on Reel Medicine, a partner boat of ours, and caught & released a Marlin and landed a pair of Mahi.  Mr. Leathers and his party fished on Colleens Magic and landed an additional pair of Dorado as well as a “skippy”.

Domingo de Dorado:  The boys made a full bounce back on Sunday as limits of Dorado were caught by the Ybarras on TantRum, Barouh’s on ReelRum, Moores on RedRum and El Nuevo lastly the Luchts aboard RumRunnin!! Not too far behind were the Landry’s aboard 19’s Toy with a half-dozen Mahi as well as the Hughes with an additional 6 for the freezer!

Not much room left in the freezer these days with all the fish being caught.  We had been very patient while waiting for the Dorado bite to pick up and it looks like they have arrived, in herds!!

Whether it’s joining RedRum for the tournament experience, becoming involved in scientific research or loading up on fish for the freezer to take back home we can take care of it all.  The RedRum Family is dedicated to making all of our anglers dreams come true.  We feel we have the greatest jobs in the world with the most incredible clients/anglers any outfitter can host. If your name is on the fish report or you are reading this to make up your mind about fishing with us, the “proof is in the pudding”!
