The Featured Picture of the Week comes from our friends John & Geraldine Laffey.  They had 2 great days fishing aboard TantRum with Juan and Humberto and sent in a few pictures of their catches!  Above shows John with his beautiful Sailfish which was released and the bottom 2 pictures show a couple of nice Dorado that they snagged!  Great job Laffeys and thanks for the pictures!

We begin the week with a 12 boat day for RedRum!  Amongst those boats almost all of our anglers were able to boat fish!  Leading the pack was Rick Gerla fishing aboard one of our 31′ Bertrams El Torito.  He and his party caught their limit of Dorado, 1 Spearfish and 1 Stripe Marlin.  Both the Spearfish and the Marlin were released!  The Cranston also fished a 31′ Bertram, RedRum and caught 8 Dorado! Pete and Lisa Trowbridge hopped on Never Give Up and landed a nice pair of Dorado with Captain Chito! Enrique and Minga Ybarra fished on Peleador with Captain Roberto and wrestled 4 Dorado and 1 Roosterfish to the boat!  Gary Speer and Jim Byrnes fished with the Jesus/Jesus combo on RumRunnin and landed a trio of Dorado. TantRum caught 1 Huachinango (Snapper) and 2 Dorado while fishing with the McCreesh Party.  El Nuevo and 19’s Toy added to the days tally catching 2 Yellowfin and 5 more Dorado to the days catch.  Mr. & Mrs. Matthew Jones fished the first of their 4 days aboard TopGun with Captain Jorge and landed 3 Roosterfish early in the morning then chased in 3 Dorado for the cooler!

On their 2nd outing on 19’s Toy Norm Young and his group landed 11 YFT while fishing with their buddy Captain Gaba!  The McCreesh Party added 3 more Dorado to their bag as well as a Marlin caught and released.  RumRunnin and the Luchts and El Nuevo fishing with the Moores were able to catch and release a Striped Marlin and 7 Dorado between the 2 of them while the Jones couple caught another 4 Dorado to add to their tally.

Tuesday and Wednesday were extremely busy days for the boys and our anglers as multiple parties brought in fish.  We were so busy in the office vacuum sealing and freezing fish for clients that I had to jump in and help the crew fill the freezers, forgetting to tally the fish caught by each boat!  That’s what happens when mostly all of the boats in the fleet are coming back with limits of Dorado and some Tuna!  Oooops!!

Thursday I was able to refocus on my reports and keep track of how each boat did! Norm Young and his party fished again with Gaba on 19’s Toy and continued their Tuna Adventure.  They found a school of porpoise early that was holding a few and they were able to pick up 7 Yellowfin.  Brandon and Brittanae Kerley fished aboard RumRunnin and quickly landed a Sierra on their outing while Henry and Julie Kennewig landed 2 Dorado each while fishing with Omar and Oscar aboard RedRum.  The Jones’ added another pair of Dorado to their bag aboard Top Gun.  The Luchts ended up with killer day after working 2 schools of Dorado aboard El Nuevo.  First Mate Charly said that the first school they came up on was “still asleep”!  The second school was wide awake and got the anglers busy with a quad-hookup!  The Galindo Crew fishing on Sniper and Never Give Up each landed and released a Marlin as well as a pair of Dorado to end the day.

Friday was another busy day for RedRum as 12 boats headed out and the buzz around the office in the morning was electric! They Laffeys fished their 2nd day with Juan and Humberto on Tantrum and landed their nice Dorados! A smaller group of the Galindo Group headed out on Sniper and got into a small school of Yellowfin, landing 7 aboard Sniper with Captain Julio.  Meanwhile, Kindell Givens and Brandon Hernandez had a great day on ReelRum catching 3 Billfish.  The couple was able to land a nearly 200# Blue Marlin, 1 Striped Marlin and a Sailfish while fishing with Ramon and Julian!  John Cranston fished his last day with us and went on a Tuna hunt with Omar and Oscar aboard RedRum.  They boys headed out early as John wanted to beat the crowd!  Although they didn’t get on the fish early Omar received a report from Captain Alex that he was on a nice school of Yellowfin and they full-throttled it to the school.  Luckily for them they got their soon enough and landed 9 nice Yellowfin.  As mentioned, Captain Alex fished with our buddy Ashley Wilcox from the CCA – San Bernard, TX chapter.  Ashley brought a solid team down including William Wilcox, Andy and Neelee Mangum as well as Tyler and Shae Menard.  The “Team from Texas” was able to slay the Yellowfin on their first of two days out on El Nuevo.  They limited out and pulled into the Marina full of smiles!

Things slowed down just a tad on Saturday as TantRum, RedRum, Colleens Magic had slow days.  Aside from that the Kowal party on ReelRum landed some nice Dorado.  Will Kim and his group of friends fished on RumRunnin and El Torito and combined for 6 Yellowfin Tuna.  Frank Benitez and his party fished aboard El Nuevo and landed 3 Striped Marlin (all released) while the Strong’s aboard Sniper caught 4 Dorado!  Brad and Emily Bonnecaze fished on Top Gun and had their fair-share of Dorado wrestled to the boat to wind down a very productive week of fishing at RedRum.

As you can tell the Dorado are still hanging around, which is a great thing for our anglers! Our freezers and vacuum sealers are working overtime to make sure that clients are able to get their catch back home to share with their amigos!  For those heading down and plan on taking your catch back with you please keep in mind some of the rules (and limits) in regards to getting the fish back home.  The process isn’t difficult but please remember that RedRum does not export fish out of Mexico and it’s the responsibility of the anglers to get their fish back, frozen!  Just a side note to end on!

We are glad the fishing has continued to improve and keep our anglers happy!  With one more tournament coming up we are expecting big things from our groups fishing in the Los Cabos Charter Boat Classic starting next week!

Stay posted for updates on the tournament and everything else going on down at RedRum!
